The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks (LA RAP) plays a significant role in providing access to hundreds of public parks and recreation facilities as well as creating a space where Los Angelenos of all ages from 9 to 99 can participate in enriching activities.
Our pivotal social media presence allows us to connect our entire department to communities members across Los Angeles, sharing upcoming events, resources to families impacted by disaster, and promoting programs for youth sports sponsored by our partners PlayLA and the LA28 Olympic games.
Overview and Contributions
My role as a graphic designer is to create compelling and unique graphics to share across our social media platforms and department-wide. Partnering with entities such as Nike, LA28 Olympic games, and the office of the Mayor provides opportunity to create inspiring content that is admired across the city.
In addition to my design work, I've created social media guidelines used throughout our department to ensure consistent and clear graphics, content requests, and streamlined sharing. These guidelines include ideal graphic sizes for cross-platform compatibility as well as formatting requirements for print and digital sharing.
I challenge myself daily to revolutionize the way I work and my creative process to ensure I am always allowing myself the space to grow, try something new, and create one-of-a-kind visual assets for our brand and presence. Some of the ways I have began exploring in my graphics include custom typography, hand-drawn assets, and using texture to create depth.
Some of my proudest moments at LA City Parks has been when my graphics take off on Instagram, reaching Los Angelenos all over the city, bringing together community and promoting the amazing work we do at our 123 Recreation Centers all over Los Angeles.
